This document provides a record of the series of meetings that took place on 18 September 1996 that involved the British Government. It records that the British delegation met with the Chairmen in the morning (a meeting which the Irish joined later), where they discussed Alliance's complaints. This was followed by the Plenary session, where all the present parties discussed Alliance's submission and offered rebuttals, and an internal meeting on the British Government response to the Alliance submission. Stephen Leach and David Hill held several meetings with Irish officials in an effort to draft a joint proposal on the handling of decommissioning, and David Trimble spoke with Patrick Mayhew and David Fell about progress on decommissioning and also reported on his meeting with the SDLP. Patrick Mayhew also met with the UDP, the SDLP, and the DUP and UKUP jointly. After a brief hold-up, the British and Irish Governments commenced their trilateral meeting with the UUP at 16.25 where they discussed the draft decommissioning bill.
