This document contains the record of a meeting between John Alderdice, Oliver Napier, Steve McBride and Seamus Close, and Patrick Mayhew, Michael Ancram, David Fell, Martin Howard, David Lavery and David Watkins that took place on 11 June at 20.15. They spoke about the ongoing disagreements regarding the role and identity of the Chairman in the talks, and Alderdice expressed concern that the 1991 rules were not robust enough to protect the Chairman and so they would propose that that they take the 1991 rules and amend them to an extent. Patrick Mayhew stated that he believed that it would be possible to split the UUP from the other unionists, and Fell argued that the UUP and the SDLP together formed the key axis. Alliance confirmed that they would accept the 1991 rules' provision on unanimity, but only in a situation where Ian Paisley and Robert McCartney had walked out of the talks.
