This document provides a record of a phone conversation between John Major and John Alderdice on 18 July 1996. Alderdice expressed some concerns with regards to the RUC, especially with regards to public sentiment towards them. They spoke about David Trimble's position, the events at Drumcree, and the importance of restoring good relations with the Irish Government. Alderdice also encouraged Major to ensure that the Apprentince Boys march takes place without any incident, and informed him that Alliance was going to put forward a vote of no confidence in the Chief Constable the next day.
