This document contains a note from David Hill dated 21 June 1996, in which he states that Michael Ancram had indicated agreement with the suggestion to adapt the text of paragraph 17A to address UUP's concern regarding their need of a political response to the UKUP; this text is enclosed in this document. The covering document also contains a tentative gameplan for 24 June 1996, with scope for a bilateral with the UUP, followed by a trilateral with the Chairmen and the Irish, and another bilateral with the Irish where the new paragraph 17A text would be presented to them. The document also encloses the British Government's draft statement on the status of the Ground Rules from 21 June 1996.
