1. The meeting began at 12.03 pm\, _Senator Mitchell_ in the Chair. 2. _The Chairman_ stated that\, pursuant to the request registered at the last Plenary session\, he proposed to make a report. This would be in two parts. The first part concerned actions taken by party delegations to confirm their commitment to the principles of democracy and non-violence. He then read into the record the following statement -
\> "During the course of the meeting I chaired in the late morning of Wednesday 12 June 1996\, the Democratic Unionist Party and subsequently the United Kingdom Unionist Party confirmed their total and absolute commitment specifically to the principles of democracy and non-violence as set out in paragraph 20 of the report of International Body. This took place in the presence of the delegations representing parties which had already signified their commitment to theses principles at a Plenary meeting earlier the same day."
_The Chairman_ stated that he accepted these two statements as evidence of the requisite commitment on the part of the parties concerned.
3. _The Chairman_ then announced that the second part of his report concerned the status of the ongoing discussions about the rules of procedure. A number of informal meetings had taken place of the past three days\, focussing on the written submissions made by various parties and received on 14 June. Considerable progress had been made in the course of discussions\, but no final recommendation could be made at present. Further informal meetings would take place. IN the circumstances\, and subject to there being no objection from those present\, he proposed to adjourn the present session of the Plenary\, to be reconvened subject to the call of the Chair.
4. There be no objection\, the meeting ended at 12.06 pm.
