7 February, 1992.
Mr John Major, MP
Prime Minister.
[Dear John,]
Thank you for your very thoughtful message and your kind remarks. I particularly appreciated your generous tribute to Ireland's Presidency of the Community in 1990.
I was delighted to welcome you on your first visit to Dublin last December and I share your belief that this meeting and our earlier meetings in London and at
European Councils, made an important contribution to relations between our two countries. I would certainly hope that our two countries can further develop these relations working together in Europe and in bringing an end to the violence in Northern Ireland and promoting peace and reconciliation among all the people there.
It was a great personal pleasure for me to worK with you and i hope that our paths will cross again in the future.
[With every good wish,
Yours sincerely
Charles Haughey]
Taoiseach.
