Tuesday, 06 September 1988

i23250

This letter was sent by Father Alec Reid to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Tom King. It provides an extensive explanation for his motivations in facilitating dialogue between the British Government, SDLP and Sinn Féin with the aim of ending violence in Northern Ireland. It also shows that Reid distinguished between the leadership and approaches of Sinn Féin and the IRA. Parts of the letter are annotated.
