Dear Roderic,
President Robinson's Call on The Queen : Press Line
President Robinson will be calling at Buckingham Palace on 27 May in the course of a private visit to the UK. The Irish want to keep the call fairly low key, and will not be publicising it in advance. Buckingham Palace (in line with normal practice) will do the same, although the call will appear in the Court Circular the following day. We should, however, have an agreed line to take in case news of the call leaks.
The enclosed draft press line has been worked out in consultation with the Taoiseach 's office, who are putting it to the President's office. Buckingham Palace have seen the line, and are content. I should be grateful for your agreement to it.
I am copying this letter to Melanie Leech (Cabinet Office) and William Fittall (Northern Ireland Office).
Yours ever,
Christopher Prentice
