A letter to John Mayjor from Albert Reynolds concerning the Joint Declaration. Lets him know not to expect a response from PIRA before the end of January. Grateful for Unionist and Loyalist response which he assesses as broadly positive. Expresses dissatisfaction over Caraher verdict. Urges him to take a softer line, to emphasise the balanced nature of the declaration and its benefits for nationalists, and not to present the Joint Declaration as the defeat of the PIRA.
