The meeting was brief, but Molyneaux was feeling positive about the declaration in spite of some rumblings from within his party. The UUP's problems lay with paragraph 4, as expected, but he understood the wording and hoped the Government could soon step away from the "no strategic interest" position when violence had ended. They also spoke about the establishment of a Northern Irish Assembly, for which Molyneaux was keen.
