Mansergh passed on some messages from the Taoiseach, including that the Irish have a strong preference that the constitutional guarantee be reiterated in the second and not the fourth paragraph. Also, that the Irish would be willing to make some variations to the previously agreed position on an Irish Convention. They also spoke about when to launch the Joint Declaration, with the Irish wanting a date early the following week. They also spoke about what meetings and briefings the Irish had been doing the past week, and what the press had been saying.
