This document provides an account of the meeting that took place between John McConnell and Father Alec Reid on 7 September 1989. They first discussed prison matters, before moving onto Reid's previous involvement in conflict resolution in Northern Ireland. Reid provided an overview of the dialogue taking place between Gerry Adams and John Hume, and claimed that he believed that Adams had begun to look towards alternatives to armed struggle.
