Record of a Meeting between John Dew and Jim Downey on 9 November 1993

Wednesday, 10 November 1993

Record of a conversation with Jim Downey, a freelance journalist working mainly with the Irish independent. Modd generally negative. Downey argued that Spring's principles along with HMG's commitment to not upsetting the unionists was pushing people in general towards more extreme positions. A perception that both the British and Irish Governments had sold out Hume. A hardening of attitudes amongst, for example, PIRA prisoners away from Adams.
