[Dear Tony,]
I enclose a letter to the Prime Minister from Mr. Gerry Adams MP proposing a dialogue about Northern Ireland.
I shall be grateful for early advice on whether the Prime Minister should reply and, if so, in what terms.
I am not aware that Mr. Adams has so far made his letter public. It would be helpful to have very early advice on what we might say publicly should he do so.
I am copying this letter and enclosure to Simon Gass (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) [and Sonia Phippard (Cabinet Office).]
[Yours,
Stephen]
