Lines to Take

- I had a full and constructive discussion of security co-operation with the Taoiseach when we met in Dublin yesterday.

- All murder is totally abhorrent. The Government utterly condemns this futile destruction of life and property. Demonstrates that the terrorists are as bereft of humanity as they are of ideas.

- I extend my sympathy to all those affected by terrorist violence.

- Those engaged in such wanton killing have no place in any society.

- The police will pursue the perpetrators relentlessly and anyone who may be able to help bring these criminals, wherever they may hide, to justice must do so.

- The Government remains absolutely committed to bringing terrorism to a permanent end: no-one should doubt our determination and that of all decent people to end this scourge.

If pressed on Resources or Internment

- The Government's position on internment is clear. It is a power which is available to us [-and it would only be used in very particular circumstances. That position has not changed-]. [There are no plans to reintroduce it.]

- The levels and type of resources available to combat terrorist in Northern Ireland are kept under continuous review: and the measured and decisive action taken within recent weeks is tangible evidence of our commitment.
