A joint declaration by the governments of Ireland and of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, issued by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Prime Minister Tony Blair during the visit of President of the United States George Bush. It followed a series of discussions held at Hillsborough Castle.
The declaration addressed issues surrounding Peace and Stability, De-paramilitarism; Policing and Justice; Devolution; and Human Rights, and aimed to secure full implementation of the Belfast Agreement (1998).
The copy of the declaration in our collection is from the Writing Peace Archives: Monica McWilliams Collection. It features handwritten annotations from members of the Northern Ireland Woman's Coalition Party (NIWC), and provides a unique insight into the collaborative efforts of the Northern Ireland political parties and their formulation of policies.
