The Road to Civil War

William H. Wadsworth

(4 July, 1821 -- 2 April, 1893) Wadsworth was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Maysville, Mason County, Ky., Wadsworth studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1844. Wadsworth was a member of the State senate from 1853 to 1856. During the Civil War, Wadsworth served as an aide to General Nelson at the Battle of Ivy Mountain. Wadsworth was elected as a Unionist to the Thirty-seventh and Thirty-eighth Congresses and as a Republican to the Forty-ninth Congress.
