The Civil Rights Act of 1875

James W. Nesmith

(June 23, 1820 -- 17 June, 1885) Nesmith was an American politician. Born in New Brunswick, Canada, while his parents were on vacation, Nesmith moved to Oregon in 1843. Nesmith was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1860 and later elected as a Democrat to the Forty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Joseph G. Wilson.
