The Civil Rights Act of 1875

James F. Wilson

(August 16, 1835 — August 26, 1920) Wilson was a politician, businessman, and professor. James Wilson was born in Ayrshire, Scotland and immigrate to the United States in 1852 with his parents. He attended Grinnell (Iowa) College and taught school while working in agriculture. Wilson served in the State House of Representatives from 1868 to 1873. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1877. Wilson presented his credentials to the Forty-Eighth Congress but was succeeded by Benjamin Frederick after Frederick successfully contested the election.
