The Civil Rights Act of 1875

Omar D. Conger

(April 1, 1818 — July 11, 1898) Conger was an American politician, judge, lawyer, and businessman. Omar Dwight Conger was born in Cooperstown, New York and moved to Ohio with his father in 1824. He graduated from Western Reserve College in Hudson, Ohio and began working in mineral explorations of the Lake Superior mineral regions. He began practicing law in Michigan in 1848 and was later elected as a judge of the county court in 1850. He served as a member of the State Senate from 1855 to 1859. Conger was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served for six congressional sessions from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1881, when he resigned having been elected a Senator. He served in the United States Senate from March 4, 1881 to March 3, 1887.
