The Civil Rights Act of 1875

George R. Dennis

(April 8, 1822 — August 13, 1882) Dennis was a medical doctor, businessman, and politician. George Robertson Dennis was born in Somerset County, Maryland but graduated from college in New York. He studied medicine at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville and the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia. After completing his education, he practiced medicine for many years. Dennis served as a member of the State House of Delegates (1871) and as a member of the State Senate (1871). Later in life, Dennis was engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-Third, Forty-Fourth, and Forty-Fifth Congresses from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1879.
