United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

Homer A. Nelson

(31 August, 1829 -- 25 April, 1891) Nelson was an American lawyer, soldier, and politician. Born in Dutchess County, N.Y., Nelson studied law and after admittance to the bar, practiced in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. During the Civil War, Nelson served as a Colonel of the One Hundred and Fifty-ninth Regiment. Nelson was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress and failed reelection. Afterwards, Nelson served as a member of the State senate (1882 and 1883), participated in the State constitutional convention (1867), and held various public positions.
