United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

Nathaniel B. Smithers

(8 October, 1818 -- 16 January, 1896) Smithers was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Dover, Del., Smithers was admitted to the bar in 1840. Smithers served as Delaware secretary of state in 1865 and was elected as an Unconditional Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress in order to fill a vacancy left by William Temple. Smithers served from December 7th, 1863 to March 3rd, 1865 and failed a reelection in 1864.
