George Mitchell

Senator George John Mitchell Jr. Born 20 August 1933. Chaired both the International Body on Arms Decommissioning and the all-party talks from 1996-1998 which resulted in the Belfast Good Friday Agreement. Held the position of United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland, appointed by President Clinton, 1995-2001. Served as a United States senator from Maine, 1980 to 1995, and as Senate Majority Leader, 1989 to 1995.
