Henry O. Pratt
(February 11, 1838 — May 22, 1931) Pratt was a teacher, lawyer, minister, and politician. Henry Otis Pratt was born in Foxcroft, Maine and moved to Iowa in 1862. He graduated from the law department of Harvard University and worked as a teacher. He was admitted to the bar in 1862 and prated law in Mason City, Iowa until the start of the Civil War. He served in the Union Army and returned to Mason City after being discharged in 1864. Pratt served in the State House of Representatives (1870-1872) and as the county superintendent of public schools for Floyd County (1868-1869). He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1877. In 1877, Pratt retired from politics and studied for the ministry. He was ordained and worked as a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church until he retired in 1918.
