The Civil Rights Act of 1875

William T. Jones

(February 20, 1842 — October 9, 1882) Jones was an American politician and lawyer. William Jones was born in Harrison County, Indiana. He studied law and was admitted to the bar, and practiced law in Indiana prior to the Civil War. During the war, Jones served in the Union Army as a major in the Indiana Volunteer Infantry. In 1869, he was appointed to be an associate justice of the Supreme Court in the Territory of Wyoming, and moved to the Territory. He was elected as a Republican to represent the Territory for the Forty-Second Congress from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1873.
