John V. Creely
(November 14, 1839 — September 28, 1900) John Vaudain Creely was an American politician and lawyer. Creely was born in Philadelphia in 1839. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1862. Creely enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War and attained the rank of officer of Light Artillery. After the war, he served as a member of the Philadelphia civil council, before being elected as an Independent Republican to the United States House of Representatives. He served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1873. However, before his term had expired, Creely mysteriously disappeared. It wasn’t until 1900 that he was legally declared dead, upon the application of his sister.
