Joseph Dixon

(April 9, 1828 — March 3, 1883) Dixon was a businessman and politician. Joseph Dixon was born in Greene County, North Carolina in 1828. After receiving an education, he worked in agriculture and the mercantile business. Not long after the Civil War, Dixon was appointed colonel of the North Carolina State Militia and served as a judge of the county court from 1864 to 1865. Before being elected to Congress, Dixon served in the State House of Commons from 1865 to 1867. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of David Heaton. Dixon served in Congress from December 5, 1870 to March 3, 1871. In 1875, he was a delegate to the State constitutional convention.
