Oliver H. Dockery

"(August 12, 1830 -- March 21, 1906) Oliver Hart Dockery was a(n) farmer, public servant, consul general, and American politician. He was born close to Rockingham, Richmond County, North Carolina. Oliver was a member of the state house of representatives (1858 and 1859), served in the Confederate service but withdrew, member of the state constitutional convention (1875), unsuccessful Governor (1888), and appointed United States consul general at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (June 14, 1889 -- July 1, 1893). Oliver was elected as a Republican to the 40th and 41st Congress (July 13, 1869 - March 3, 1871) and was not elected in 1870. During his time on Congress, he served as chairman on the Committee on the Freedmen's Bureau (41st Congress).
