James A. Johnson

"(May 16, 1829 -- May 11, 1896) James Augustus Johnson was a(n) studier of medicine, lawyer, public servant, registrar or voters, lieutenant governor, and American politician. Johnson was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina and moved to California in 1853. James studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1859. He served as a member of the general assembly (1859 and 1860), Lieutenant Governor of California (1875 - 1880), and was registrar of voters (1883 and 1884). Johnson was elected as a Democrat to the 40th and 41st Congresses (March 4, 1867 - March 3, 1871).
