Clement C. Clay

(13 December, 1816 — 3 January, 1882) Clay was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Huntsville, Ala., Clay was admitted to the bar in 1840. After an unsuccessful attempt in 1850 to run for the Thirty-second Congress, Clay was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in order to fill a vacancy in 1853. Clay was reelected in 1858 and in total served from November 29th, 1853 to January 21st, 1861 when he withdrew.
