John Woodruff

(12 February, 1826 — 20 May, 1868) Woodruff was an American politician born in West Hartford, Conn. Woodruff was elected a member of the common council in 1848 and served several terms. In 1852, Woodruff served as a member of the general assembly. Woodruff was elected as a candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress but failed reelection in 1856. Woodruff was once again elected to the Thirty-fifth Congress and to the Thirty-sixth Congress as a Republican. Woodruff served as the appointed collector of internal revenue for the second district of Connecticut and served until his death in New Haven, Conn. in 1868.
