J. Ambler Smith

(September 23, 1847 — January 6, 1892) John Ambler Smith was an American lawyer and politician. Smith was born in Dinwiddle County, Virginia in 1847, He graduated from Richmond College and was admitted to the bar in 1867. Smith served in various public offices including commissioner in chancery of the courts of Richmond, Commonwealth attorney, and State Senator. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875.
