James M. Cavanaugh

"(July 4, 1823 -- October 30, 1879) James Michael Cavanaugh was a(n) lawyer, miner, public servant, and American politician. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and moved to Iowa, Minnesota, and Montana. James studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1854. He was a member of the state constitutional convention (1865). Cavanaugh was elected from Minnesota as a Democrat to the 35th Congress (May 11, 1858 -March 3, 1859). James moved to Montana and was elected as a Democrat Delegate to the 40th and 41st Congresses (March 3, 1867 - March 3, 1871) and was not reelected.
