Samuel B. Axtell

"(October 14, 1819 -- August 6, 1891) Samuel Beach Axtell was a(n) lawyer, miner, public servant, governor, judge, member of a territorial committee, and American politician. Axtell was born close to Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio and moved to California in 1851. Axtell studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1843. He served as prosecuting attorney for Amador County (1854 - 1860), Governor of Utah Territory (1874), was transferred to the office of Governor of the New Mexico Territory (1875), chief justice of the supreme court in the Territory of New Mexico (August 1882 - May 25, 1885) and was chairmen of the Republican Territorial committee. Samuel was elected as a Democrat to the 40th and 41st Congress (March 4, 1867 - March 3, 1871).
