George A. Halsey

"(December 7, 1827 -- April 1, 1894) George Armstrong Halsey was a(n) manufacturer of leather, public servant, assessor of internal revenue, president of an insurance company, and American politician. He was born in Springfield, Union County, New Jersey. George was a member of the State house of assembly of New Jersey (1861 & 1862) and United States Assessor of Internal Revenue (1862 -1866). He was elected as a Republican to the 40th and 41st Congress (March 4, 1867 - March 3, 1869 & March 4, 1871 - March 3, 1873) and was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1868 and 1872. During Halsey's time on Congress, he served as chairman on the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds (42nd Congress).
