Bernard G. Caulfield
(October 18, 1828 — December 19, 1887) Bernard Gregory Caulfield was a lawyer, politician, and later on in life, a landowner. Caulfield was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1828 and moved to Chicago in 1853. He graduated from Georgetown College in 1848 and studied law at the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia. Caulfield was admitted to the bar in 1850 and practiced law in Kentucky until he moved to Illinois in 1853. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of John B. Rice. He served from February 1, 1875 to March 3, 1877. After his service in Congress, Caulfield moved to the Dakota Territory and became a large landowner. He died in what is now South Dakota in 1887.
