The Civil Rights Act of 1875

Alfred E. Buck

(February 7, 1832 — December 4, 1902) Buck was an American politician and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Union Army. Alfred Buck was born in Piscataquis County, Maine. After serving in the Union Army during the Civil War, he served as a delegate to the constitutional convention of Alabama (1967). He later served as a clerk to the circuit court of Mobil County (1967-1968), and clerk of the United States circuit and district courts in Georgia (1974-1889). Buck was elected as a Republican to the Forty-First Congress from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1871. When he died, in 1902, he was serving as the Minister to Japan.
