Anthony L. Knapp

(14 June, 1828 -- 24 May, 1881) Knapp was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Middletown, Orange County, N.Y., Knapp moved to Illinois in 1839. Knapp was a member of the State senate from 1851 to 1861 and was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John A. McClernand. Knapp was reelected into the Thirty-eighth Congress serving from December 12th, 1861 to March 3rd, 1865.
