(April 12, 1825 — January 18, 1887) Cain was a pastor, bishop, newspaper manager, and politician. Richard Harvey Cain was born in Greenbrier County, Virginia and moved to Ohio in 1831. He worked as a pastor in New York from 1861 to 1865, before moving to South Carolina in 1865. Cain served as a delegate to the State constitutional convention of South Carolina in 1868, and also as a member of the State Senate from 1868 to 1872. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives for the Forty-Third Congress from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875.
