An amendment to the United States Constitution to abolish slavery introduced during the American Civil War.

(14 December, 1794 -- 9 April, 1872) Corning was an American businessman and politician. Born in Norwich, Conn., Corning moved to New York in 1814 and established himself in the iron business. Corning was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress and later to the Thirty-seventh and Thirty-eighth Congresses. Corning participated as a delegate to the delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1867.
