United States Thirteenth Amendment 1863-65

An amendment to the United States Constitution to abolish slavery introduced during the American Civil War.

Cornelius Cole

(17 September, 1822 -- 3 November, 1924) Cole was an American lawyer, politician, and public servant. Cornelius Cole was born in Lodi, Seneca County, N.Y.. Cole studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1848. After becoming a resident of California he served as the Sacramento City and County district attorney (1859-1862) and was a member of the Republican National Committee from 1856-1860. Cole was elected as a Union Republican to the Thirty-eighth Congress and served from March 4th, 1863 to March 3rd, 1865.
