(15 November, 1799 -- 13 June, 1880) Bayard was an American lawyer and politician. He was born in Wilimington, Del. and served as Delaware district attorney 1838-1843. Bayard was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1851 and reelected in 1858 and 1863, serving from March 4, 1851 to January 29, 1864.
