(29 April, 1745 – 26 November, 1807) Ellsworth was an American lawyer, judge, politician, and diplomat.
Born in Connecticut, he entered Yale and later the College of New Jersey (later Princeton). He was a framer of the United States Constitution, a United States Senator from Connecticut, and the third Chief Justice of the United States. Ellsworth was in favor of abolishing slavery.
