(1752 – 24 May 1821) Lawyer, U.S. Representative, and Senator.

Moore served as a lieutenant during the Revolutionary War and was afterwards elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. He was also a delegate to the state convention on the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, which he supported. He later served on the first four United States Congresses. Two years after leaving Congress, Moore returned to the Virginia House of Delegates to oppose the Alien and Sedition Acts passed by the Fifth Congress. He was later elected to the Eighth Congress, but served only a short time before taking up a vacancy in the Senate.
