(September 18, 1825 — February 10, 1886) Henry Joel Scudder was an American politician and lawyer. Scudder was born in Northport, New York in 1825. He graduated from Trinity College in 1846 and was admitted to the bar in 1848. Scudder served in the New York National Guard from 1862 until the end of the Civil War. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875. After serving in Congress, he served as a trustee of Trinity College and continued to practice law until his death in 1886.
