(December 14, 1812 — January 25, 1881) William Henry Ray was a businessman, banker, and politician. Ray was born in Amenia, New York in 1812 and moved to Illinois in 1834. In Illinois he worked in the mercantile industry and as a banker, while also serving as a member of the State board of equalization. Ray was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875. After serving in Congress, he continued working in business until his death in 1881.
