Robert P. Caldwell

(December 16, 1821 — March 12, 1885) Caldwell was an American politician and lawyer. Robert Porter Caldwell was born in Adair County, Kentucky in 1821 and moved to Tennessee with his parents a few years later. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1845. Caldwell served in the State House of Representatives (1847, 1848) and in the State Senate (1855, 1856). During the Civil War, he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as a major. After the war, Caldwell was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1873.
