Charles R. Thomas

(February 7, 1827 — February 18, 1891) Thomas was an American politician, judge, and lawyer. Charles Randolph Thomas was born in Beaufort, North Carolina in 1827. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, studied law, and was admitted to the bar. Thomas was a member of the State constitutional convention in 1861 and acted as Secretary of State of North Carolina in 1864. Before being elected to Congress, he was a judge of the superior court from 1868 to 1870. Thomas was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1875.
