John T. Averill

(March 1, 1825 — October 3, 1889) Averill was an American politician and businessman in the paper and grain industries. John Averill was born in Lincoln County, Maine and moved to Minnesota in 1857, where he was engaged in mercantile pursuits and the grain business. While in Minnesota he served as a member of the State Senate (1858-1860). During the Civil War he was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel in the Minnesota Volunteer Infantry and was honorably mustered out in 1865. Averill was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives from March 4, 1871 to March 3, 1875.
